When you hear that someone has a two-faced cat, you think they have a cat with two head colors. Well, that is not the case here. This cat literally has two faces or two heads. A cat with two faces is called a Janus cat.

Meet Frank and Louie. This feline was born with two faces, two mouths, two noses, and three blue eyes. At the time, the vets believed that he had only a few days to live. There never was a Janus cat that has lived long.

What is a Janus Cat?

These types of cats are called Janus after a Roman god who had two faces. And normally these cats didn’t live long due to their condition.

‘Frankenlouie’ even entered the Guinness World Records in 2012 for being the longest living Janus cat.

A breeder actually brought the two-faced cat, Frank and Louie, to a vet to be euthanized. This was back in September 1999. However, the vet nurse Stevens took this rare cat at her home. She didn’t believe that Frank and Louie would live, but she decided to take care of him home.

Stevens started taking care of him, feeding him with tubes. Soon she realized that only one side – Frank’s side – was connected with his esophagus. So he was actually functioning as one cat. But had an appetite for two.

The two-faced cat lead a very normal life

The most interesting part of the story is that this condition didn’t cause Frank and Louie’s death. He died of cancer at age 15. He was leading a very normal life for 15 years as a regular cat.

Stevens was devastated to lose the cat that was with her for 15 years.

However, she stated that she would like to adopt another Janus cat as soon as her sadness passes.

It must be amazing to have the opportunity to own a cat so special and it would definitely be difficult to separate from one.
