Bengal cats resemble very much like wild cats. If you saw this type of cat, you probably noticed that they look like a Bengal tiger. Well, that’s not far from the truth because these cats are a hybrid of Asian leopard cats and domestic cats.

If you are interested in getting a Bengal cat or if you already own one, here are some facts that you should know about them. For those in the second group, feel free to comment if you agree or disagree with these facts.

1. Bengal Cats Are Very Active Cats

These highly intelligent cats are also very active. They enjoy playing and running around the house, and they are the complete opposite of lazy cats. If you are more into pets that love to cuddle and curl up with you constantly, then the Bengal cat is not the right choice for you.

2. These Cats Are Very Recognizable With Their Appearance

Bengal cats really look like they live in the jungle. Their coat is short and silky with an iridescent effect. Their distinct markings can be spotted (like cheetah) or marbled. They can be black, brown, silver, and even blue.

3. This Cat Breed Can Also Be Large

Even though Maine Coon is the cat known to be the biggest cat breed in the world, some Bengal cats can also grow large. They usually don’t weigh that much; they are lighter but can be big. Male Bengals can have a weight of between 10 and 15 pounds, and females from 8 to 10 pounds.

Some rare exceptions are male Bengals weighing 20 to 22 pounds.

4. These Cats Can Be Great Predators

Just as they look, the Bengal cats can also be like real wild cats. They have their predatory instincts and love to play. This is why it’s a good idea to buy them plenty of toys so they can play and practice their predatory instincts. Therefore, you should keep any hamsters, mice, or bunnies away from them because they can easily catch them.

If you get yourself a Bengal cat, you will wake up with small daily presents in the form of dead birds or mice.

5. Bengal Cats Can Also Be Very Pricey

These cats are really not cheap. Regular Bengal cats you wouldn’t put up on a show would cost a few hundred dollars. But if you want to get yourself a show-quality Bengal, this can cost you a few thousand. It really all depends on the breeder, location, quality, and gender, but the most expensive is usually around $10,000. There are some reports of the biggest amount paid for a Bengal cat, and it reaches $50,000.

However, I am sure you would agree that it is worth it!
