Louie the Blind Cat is another hero in the cat’s world. This beautiful cat went through so much in life, but he doesn’t give up. But most importantly his family is there with him to help him get over every disease.
Kerry Denman is a great cat lover and has always wanted to adopt a kitten. When she found out that her neighbors had a litter of kittens that were up for adoption she went straight there. This was back in 2012 and the kittens were five weeks old. Kerry was very happy to get her cat, but wasn’t sure which one to choose.
Louie found her
Immediately one of the kittens caught her attention, it was a little ball of fluff. But the owner told her not to bother with him because he had some eye condition.
This didn’t stop her. Kerry took the kitten and realized that not only was he blind, he was also small and malnourished. She learned that his birth mother rejected him and this is why he was skinny. This got her to think if she will be able to take care of the special needs blind cat.
After two days she realized that she can’t leave him and take another cat. She went back and adopted the blind cat.
She also donated 10 pounds to get his mother spayed. Kerry took the blind cat to her home and named him Louie. It turned out that this cat was living a normal life. He had no problems finding or using the litter box and he never had an accident.
When Kerry took Louie to the vet they couldn’t diagnose a disease or a reason for his blindness. Not a single test that was done proved anything and it was unlikely that he would regain his sight. But she didn’t even want to bother that much with that and causing him too much distress and putting him through too many examinations. Louie was getting his way around and that was enough. He lives with Kerry for more than 8 years now.
“His blindness, in my opinion, seems to cause him the least amount of problems of the things he has wrong” – said Kerry.
Sadly, he had other health conditions
When he was six weeks old, he got patellar luxation which was causing dislocation of his kneecaps. The good part was that this wasn’t causing him any pain and there wasn’t anything they could do at the time. A few years later when he started limping, the vet recommended that he rest for a month in a cage. This was terrible for both Louie and Kerry, but Kerry cared so much about him that she didn’t separate from Louie.
Luckily, they got through to this condition quickly.
In September 2018, there was another problem. He was bleeding from his mouth and when Kerry took him to the vet he found a massive tumor in his mouth under the tongue. The vet even warned them that they might need to get him to sleep, it seemed that serious.
After a week once they got the results from a biopsy he got, they got some good news. The mass under the tongue was non-cancerous so he survived again.
Even though he managed to recover again, later Louie was diagnosed with a kidney disease. He is now treated by his loving family, they are managing the symptoms with special food for him.
Despite all these health conditions, Louie is a great fighter. He might be the proof that cats have 9 lives. The most important part of this story is that he has a family that loves him and takes care of him.
