If you want a cat that is friendly and gentle, that wants to cuddle and like your kids and at the same time is big and beautiful, get a Maine Coon cat. They can grow up to 25 pounds and are a great companion.
But, how much do they cost? On average, a Maine Coon kitten costs from $1,500 to $4,000. However, as you probably know, this will not be the only time that you pay for the cat. Here are the costs for food, vet and accessories for the cat.
Having in mind that the Maine Coon cat is a giant cat, almost as big as a dog, she actually eat as much as a dog. So, consider spending a minimum of $200 annually for food, or event twice as much if you are feeding them with a higher-end food.
If you are not willing to do the grooming on your own, you will have additional costs. In this case, set aside at least $320 for bathing, nail clipping and brushing, something that needs to be done every quarter.
Not counting the grooming, the total yearly expenses for a Maine Coon cat can be $980.
So, if you have decided to buy a Maine Coon, you would need to know where to get one. A pure breed of Maine Coon cat can not be found in a pet shop. The pure bred Maine Coon kittens can be found at registered breeders in local Maine Coon Clubs or the CFA (The Cat Fanciers’ Association).
Another thing you need to know about costs
There is a difference in buying a Maine Coon cat to have it as a pet or buying it for a show. If you want to have it as a cat, it will not cost you that much. On the other hand, if you decide to get a Maine Coon for a show you would need to buy the breeding rights for the kitten which can cost you up to $2,000 as an addition to its regular price.
